Eider whose values are in perfect harmony with the equitable trade, is pioneer in France with the development of the first die equitable cotton with Max Havelaar label. First company of clothing to be invested in equitable trade in 2004, EIDER markets a complete collection with Max Havelaar label: the Gravical range.
Max Havelaar is the principal label of fair trade in Europe. It offers pragmatic and concretes solution for the negative aspects of globalisation. It contributes to the introduction of a transparent economy, which takes in count the values of human and durable development. The organization of world trade (fluctuating courses, pressure of the intermediaries...) penalizes the small producers and the workers, and hardly allows them to survive. The label is granted only the products which answer the international standards of far trade on the conditions of production and of marketing. It offers the guarantee that the producers receive a decent price for their harvest and that the farm labourers work in correct conditions.
EIDER works with the Malians co-operatives of cotton selected by Max Havelaar association. Cotton occupies a place power station in the African western economy and relates to 20 million people and 60 % of the export earnings. Classified 81st on a classification of 88 countries in the process of development, gross domestic product per capita of Mali was estimated only at 900$ in 2003. Mali is very vulnerable to fluctuations of world prices for cotton: its principal exportations.
For you, quality
For them, dignity
For all, balance
The Gravical collection includes cotton products labelled: Max Havelaar. This range is dedicated to climbing which spirit suits Max Havelaars' values.

We can qualify a fabric as waterproof when water cannot penetrate the interior of a garment regardless of the activity and the duration of its use.
A breathable fabric allows perspiration to escape freely through the garment. Breathability is also essential for comfort and waterproofing. The discomfort is due to either to excessive heat or the loss of heat caused by conduction; garments that are humid let heat escape 32 times faster than dry garments.
One membrane contains millions of microscopic pores in cm², large enough to let water vapor (perspiration) escape, yet sufficiently small to completely stop the passage of wind, rain and snow. That means that your body will stay dry. At EIDER, there are two types of membranes : GORE-TEX® and DEFENDER®.
The 3-layer membrane is laminated onto another fabric; providing greater resistance and lighter weight. While the 2-layer membrane is left open ; protected simply by a thin net or lining.
A water resistant top coat treatment placed on the fabric to reinforce water protection.
This technology is used on the all the EIDER garments made in EXPLORER®.
A membrane’s water protection can be garrantied only if it is not perforated. When making the garments, the pieces are assembled together by seams that perforate the membrane. Consequently, in order to ensure that the garment is completely waterproof, it is imperative that all of the seams be reinforced with a watertight seal.
All of the exterior fabrics in the GORE-TEX®, DEFENDER® and EXPLORER® garments have been treated with water repellent treatment from their manufacturing. This coating causes water to bead up and roll off the outer layer of fabric, instead of being absorbed and allowing the garment to become completely soaked. In turn, this treatment also reduces the loss of heat and condensation within the interior of the garment. The water-repellent treatment should be renewed with relative frequency in order to ensure its effectiveness.
It is the capacity of a garment to stop the penetration of wind and loss of warmth.
Once the wind passes through a garment that is not windproof, it alterates the thin layer of air that is close to the skin (micro climate) provoking a sensation of cold and discomfort, commonly known as the shiver effect.
The garments WINDSTOPPER® and WINDEFENDER® are completely windproof in order to efficiently protect you against the shiver effect.
The ideal mountain garment is the one that goes without notice. It should be solid enough (including targeted reinforcements) to resist the abrassive environment of the mountains. While at the same time light and easily compactible enough to take up minimal space in your backpack. The garment should also offer high breathablility adaptable to the physical intesity level and an anatomical fit to ensure minimal bulk and easy harness strap-on and it should offer strategically placed STRETCH areas for greater flexibility.
Reinforced backpack
Lightweight
Functional (numerous pockets, easy-access pockets, easy adjustability : size, hood,...)
Good protection: on hood and use of membrane
Designed to resiste rather difficult climate and intensity conditions, the use of a membrane is adviced to ensure the best protection against bad weather and maximum persperation evaporation.
The best garments for multi-physical activities should be above anything else lightweight and very breathable. They should permit great ease of movement and maximum compactability to offer more backpack space.
Snowsports garments cuts to give you:
- Sealing and resistance
For long hours of ride with dryness (membrane, hood, skirt snow fence, gaiters...)
- Comfort and heat: breathing, collar and hood doubled polar, back going up, thermal lining with drying rapid...
- Flexibility and functionality

With GORE-TEX® fabrics you may wash your garment as often as you need to. In fact, washing and tumble-drying will actually help restore the water-repellency performance of a GORE-TEX® garment.
The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside, which is how we can guarantee you'll stay dry and warm in a garment made with GORE-TEX® fabric. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you don't get clammy and uncomfortable. That's what 'waterproof/breathable' is all about.
GORE-TEX® membranes have proven under extensive testing that they will last for many years. However, its resitance also depends on the kind of fabric it has been laminated. The exterior fabric should be adequetly adapted to the targeted physical activity. We will not use the same fabric suitable for trekking for alpinism.
Yes. GORE-TEX® fabric is windproof, so it blocks cold air and wind that can disturb your body heat and cause windchill. However, GORE-TEX® fabric itself doesn't have any special insulating qualities, so in really cold conditions, wearing extra layers underneath your outerwear will ensure that you stay warm and comfortable. We advise you to wear fleece fabrics or any other kind of all sinthetic fabrics as underwear and intermediate layers.
The GORE-TEX® membrane will not deteriorate with time, in addition, their garments have been rigoursly tested to guarantee durable waterprotection, breathability and resistance under real conditions. Nevertheless, the best advise is to use common sense and wear your garment for its intended use; i.e, don't wear a lightweight cycling jacket on a backcountry camping trip. And obviously, a ski instructor who wears his or her garment every day will need to buy a new one sooner than a skier who takes his or her garment out twice a year will. If you maintain your garment properly, you can expect it to last.
If inspite of strictly following our care instructions above, you note any manufacturing anomalies or defects after purchase, please return the garment to the original store where the product was purchased for expert opinion. After verficiation and if necessary the store will return the product to us and we will repair it, free of charge, or replace it, at our discretion. The product will be returned to you without further delay, in hope that this anomaly or defect does not alter your confidence in our products.
