Eider and Ski Utah celebrate their partnership !

Since 2010, Eider has held a partnership with Ski Utah, the non-profit organization that promotes Utah’s ski and snowboarding industry.

Sure, you could say we enjoy this alliance because of the easy access to Utah’s world class ski resorts, or the legendary backcountry terrain in the Wasatch. And we’d be lying if we said “the greatest snow on earth” wasn’t one of the reasons we love working with them. But what overrides all of those perks, is that the staff at Ski Utah are simply our kind of people. They feel more like friends than business associates. We get inspired by their adventures, big and small, and their dedication to their jobs and brand partners is truly remarkable.

While our home base is in Annecy, France, the world feels a little smaller and more connected by having these friends on the other side of the pond. As such, we thought you might want to get to know them a little bit, too. And if you’re planning any trips there anytime soon, a local’s tip never hurts.

What has kept you in Utah for all these years?

Raelene Davis

While I was born in Utah, my family moved to Colorado when I was 13. I returned to Utah for college and after graduation moved to several other states. I returned to Utah in 1984 with my husband as we wanted to raise our family in this great state where there are so many recreational opportunities (skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, boating and of course…all the beauty of the national parks and monuments)).

E

Where is your favorite place to ski, and why ?

R.D

I know it sounds cliché, but I love skiing wherever I’m skiing. With that said, Deer Valley Resort is my go-to resort.

E

If someone were to tell you they had one meal to eat in Utah, where would you send them and why?

R.D

I would tell them to go to Deer Valley Seafood Buffet. For a seafood lover, it can’t be beat. All the seafood is flown in fresh daily and all ingredients in the salads and entrees are locally sourced. The bread pudding and Deer Valley’s signature dessert, the snowball, are worth saving room for..

Dawn patrol, first chair, or crack of noon club ?

R.D

While I am an early riser, I prefer First Chair.

E

What is your numero uno life mantra ?

R.D

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were.

E

Three truths and a lie :

R.D

I’ve ski jumped at the Utah Olympic Park. I was a torchbearer for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.  I’ve heli skied the Canadian Rockies.

Favorite Eider piece, past or present :

R.D

There are many pieces that I love, but my favorite Eider piece was the original full-zip Striking.  I still have two and while they are many years old, I still love wearing them.

What brought you to Utah ?

Brandon Ott

The dream of the snow, of course. I drove out from Portland for just “one” winter. I showed up to work at Alta the day before Thanksgiving, unfortunately, the mountains were as dry as the nearby desert. And then on Thanksgiving day it all changed. 100 inches of snow fell in the next 100 hours. This storm is still talked about today—and I was lucky enough to have front row seats back in 2001.

E

Where is your favorite place to ski, and why ?

B.O

This is a tough one, but I’d have to say that the Paradise lift at Powder Mountain is what dreams are made of. I love the playful terrain and great fall-line skiing that peels off in three directions immediately under the lift. North facing, east facing and west facing. On a powder day, I’d rather be nowhere else in the world. The lift ride itself is insanely long—I think it’s close to 11 minutes long, but this gives you a chance to catch up with your buddies and be one with the mountain.

E

If someone were to tell you they had one meal to eat in Utah, where would you send them and why?

B.O

Silver Fork Lodge in Big Cottonwood Canyon. This place embodies the classic and timeless mountain-lodge feel but serves up local and high-quality eats with a great drink list.

E

Dawn patrol, first chair, or crack of noon club ?

B.O

Definitely dawn patrol. The first alpenglow light kissing the tops of the Wasatch mountains is a transcendental experience. And the skiing down part isn’t too bad either.

E

What is your numero uno life mantra ?

B.O

To live the life you love. I know it’s probably a bit cliché, as every pro skiers’ Instagram profile probably references something similar, but I am a passionate person who follows my heart. I can’t wait to see how this mantra serves me as I grow old.

E

Three truths and a lie: High School Valedictorian :

High School Valedictorian. Jon Krakauer is my uncle. Witnessed Tiger sharks attack and eat a Humpback whale.

Favorite Eider piece, past or present :

Hands down, the black Eider puffy. It’s warm, comfortable, perfect on the mountain, in a coffee shop or even at dinner.

Where is your favorite place to ski and why ?

Alta is my go-to resort. The snow is always great, fun, and diverse terrain. Plus many of my friends ski there. It really is a special place.

E

If someone were to tell you they had one meal to eat in Utah, where would you send them and why?

Red Iguana, because carne aside tacos and margaritas rule !

Dawn patrol.

What brought you to Utah ?

Hailey Klotz

The University of Utah Business School (and the excellent football team, Go Utes!) but also the dreamy mountains.

E

Where is your favorite place to ski and why ?

H.K

Each time I show a new friend or family member around Utah, there are a number of resorts and ski runs I must share with them. At Alta Ski Area, I insist on riding the Sugarloaf chair and winding my way to the base of Sunnyside lift. Although an easy run, the views are stunning and I prefer morning laps here as this side of the mountain catches the first direct rays of warm sunshine every morning. Deer Valley is another at the top of my list. Both Birdseye and Nabob wind underneath the Sterling Express lift. The first section is steep and challenging but as you reach the bottom the terrain mellows making carving some fast turns a whole lot of fun. A trip to DV isn’t complete without turkey chili and a chocolate chip cookie. I never regret it, and promise you wont either !

E

If someone were to tell you they had one meal to eat in Utah, where would you send them and why?

H.K

Sundance. HANDS DOWN! Greeted by the smell of campfire and a running creek, several small paths lead to Sundance’s restaurants where you’ll find an incredible ambiance and authentic western vibes you won’t see anywhere else in Utah. Enough about the vibes, their food is to die for. You’ll just have to experience it for yourself !

E

Dawn patrol, first chair, or crack of noon club ?

H.K

I’m a regular Sunday morning skier and have a routine, although I try to never be in a hurry so I usually arrive shortly after first chair.

E

What is your numero uno life mantra ?

H.K

Everything happens for a reason !

E

Three truths and a lie :

H.K

I’ve never travelled outside the US. I have six pink winter jackets. I started skiing when I was two.

E

Favorite Eider piece, past or present :

H.K

Valdez Hoodie (2015) in pink of course
